Welcome to the homepages of the artist Albert Birkle!
The art-loving public has been mostly interested in the first ten years of Albert Birkle's (Charlottenburg 1897 - 1966 Salzburg) active years, which can be located in the environment of New Objectivism/Neue Sachlichkeit. Later, after World War II, he found artistic satisfaction and was well appreciated in totally different fields. For instance, he gave up oil painting almost entirely. Glass painting, sketches for stained glass commissions and critical graphic art became increasingly important to him.
Birkle's early work was associated with Dix and Grosz, which does not really seem fair in the light of his own originality, as social and other themes are regularly tinged with phantastic, grotesque and moody elements in his wirk. Birkle's case, the typical New Objectivity painting is rather an exception than the rule.
